The Joomla development team has delivered the easiest to use and most feature packed Joomla ever on 24th January. With guaranteed support for 3 years, the new stable version of Joomla looks set to be suitable for more website applications than ever before.
Re-written from the ground up for the third generation
In September 2011, Joomla celebrated it's 6th birthday. In a few short years it has come a long way, and recent estimates are that 2.7% of the entire web is now run on Joomla. With the release of version 2.5 Joomla enters it's third generation, and the future for Joomla looks very bright. Joomla 2.5 is the best ever version of this popular content management system software. The software for 2.5 has been re-written from the ground up to be faster than ever; there is a new, outward looking team running Joomla which is engaging with the wider Joomla community more than ever before, and we have a growing and record number of third party extensions, currently heading towards the 9,000 mark.
A Flexible Platform
The new Joomla mission statement is "Our mission is to provide a flexible platform for digital publishing and collaboration." The current leadership of Joomla has wholeheartedly taken on board this idea and with the release of Joomla 2.5 it is promoting the use of Joomla as a platform with external APIs which will lead to a new generation of exciting third party extensions, most of which do not yet probably exist.
Powerful new features
Joomla 2.5 has addressed the three key weaknesses in earlier versions, namely the lack of a full Access Control Level system (the new system is very powerful), limited sublevels of categories (now unlimited) and the problem of upgrading Joomla and it's extensions.
Improved Naming system
With the release of 2.5 Joomla has also finally addressed one of my biggest bugbears, it's numbering scheme, a source of great confusion for many newbies in times past.
This is the first long term stable release, and will be supported for 3 years so you can proceed with confidence.
